Use Case

Lidar Has a unique position in the industry as it has the ability to penetrate through thick vegetation and provide extremely accurate mapping data of inorganic surfaces on the ground floor. While lidar does have limitations in certain respects to penetrative ability, its capacity when used with proper mapping techniques is far above the 95th percentile. When combined with survey grade Ground Control Points (GCP), lidar can perform the most accurate and unencumbered surveying of any technology currently available on the market. Lidar has been performed by government agencies and scientific organizations for decades. Until recently the completion of lidar surveys was performed using planes at higher altitudes than surveyors work at today. With the inundation of drones into the market, the price of performing lidar surveys and the accuracy of the acquired data has improved to such a significant amount that it is slowly becoming a staple in the real estate, engineering, and industrial development markets. Osiris IS NOT currently licensed as land surveyors and drone mapping is not internationally accepted as survey grade without certification from a licensed surveyor. Drone companies typically partner with ground based, licensed surveyors to certify lidar and orthomosaic maps.

Unlike standard photography, Lidar imaging has a general downward progression of price in relation to cost. Planning a mission has basic tasks and functions that are uniform to all tasks regardless of size. Additional tasks are minimally increased as the size of tasks increases. While there are additional expenses such as battery usage, taking additional GCPs, and relocation for separate mapping paths, the additional expense becomes linear as the size of the project increase. As you can see above, we have worked to develop a pricing plan that works to incorporate these changes in a way that is easy to understand. Our experience shows that a general project will reduce in expense by 60% along various phases as the size of the project scales up. We have incorporated these findings into developing the pricing model we use today.

GSD

Ground Sample Distance (GSD) is a calculation of the size of a single pixel in relation to the physical word it is documenting. A lower GSD means a single pixel represents a smaller area, meaning higher resolution and better image quality. With Lidar, GSD is very much reliant on the specific hardware being utilized for the survey. Flight path distance can play a role roll in final resolution though its impact is significantly less than the laser imager and mapping algorithms utilized. Pricing will be influenced by price of required equipment if higher resolution mapping is required.

*Pricing on all services above include commute within the Houston-Galveston metro area. Outside locations are subject the travel and per diem charges, per IRS guidelines. Technicians are also subject to a base hourly rate of $30/hr during transit.

*Work that requires specialty training, certifications, or permitting outside of industry standard will be subject to a 15% surcharge plus and hourly technician rate, if applicable. All standard credentials such as Safety Basic, TWIC cards, and Piloting Licenses are incurred by Osiris Drones, LLC.
